Starting your journey with a personal trainer is exciting, but it also comes with some uncertainty. While any unfamiliar experience can feel a bit daunting at first, we’re here to help put your mind at ease by explaining how you can prepare for your first personal training session. Here’s everything you should know before meeting with one of our trainers.
There’s not much you absolutely have to do before your first personal training session, but there are some steps you can take to help the process go smoothly. We recommend the following:
Your initial personal training session will involve a fair amount of discussion. As mentioned above, our trainers will want to know more about your goals and starting point, but they may also ask about how much time you have to dedicate to workouts, what type of exercise you prefer, and whether you’d like any nutritional guidance.
Once they learn more about your expectations, they’ll begin to discuss typical personal training methods. For example, they may provide a basic overview of what training will look like. This may include how many days per week you should exercise (both with your trainer and on your own), which types of workouts you’ll be doing, and what else you can do to reach your goals as efficiently as possible. For instance, in addition to nutrition, they may discuss sleep patterns and recovery recommendations. Depending on what you’re looking to achieve in your fitness journey, trainers may also sometimes use a baseline fitness assessment, weigh-in, or measurements to gauge your starting point. Here at Mobile Trainers, though, we know that numbers only tell part of the story. For this reason, we use advanced 3D body composition scans which give more detailed insights of key fitness indicators, including fat and muscle mass. We’ll measure body composition at routine intervals to track progress and make any program changes as needed. Once these initial factors have been addressed, you could begin working out during your very first session. This will give your trainer the opportunity to show you proper form and give you an idea of what type of exercises you’ll expect in your fitness program. They can also gauge how challenging certain moves are for you, which can further help to inform their program planning.
