Fitplan has a huge database of workouts brought to you by top professionals. It gets our top spot due to a trifecta of affordability, high quality training programs, and an unbeatable quantity of high-end trainers. In fact, even celebrities like Rob Gronkowski and Alex Rodriguez can be found on the app delivering workouts! There are over a hundred different workout plans available on this app, making the price point incredibly low for the level of quality delivered.
The online workout programs themselves can range from a couple days to a couple months, and you'll also find plenty of options for workouts that do and don't require equipment. Workout durations will also vary from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the program chosen. HOWEVER, while this app has earned our top spot based on the quality and variety of workouts available, it does NOT include nutrition planning. Nutrition is key to any fitness program, so if you need help on your nutrition planning as well, check out some of the other options in this list.
Beachbody on Demand has a number of science-based and well-vetted programs available on its platforms, and they are probably the biggest name in before-and-after results. One of its earliest workout programs, P90X, became something of a cult workout, with hugely impressive before-and-after photos circulating the web. How do they do it? With hard work, calculated nutrition, and science. In fact, it's very important you don't overlook the nutrition aspect of these programs. Beachbody's nutrition programs are top-notch, and they're critical to achieving these massively impressive results.
While a lot of these before-and-after testimonials derive from their P90X, Instanity, and 80-day Obsession programs, all of Beachbody's programs are undeniably good. Below is a brief overview of each one.
80-Day Obsession
80-day Obsession was created by Autumn Calabrese and designed primarily for women. Unlike some other workouts from Beachbody, 80-day obsession includes 80 different workouts. These workouts are 30 to 60 minutes in length, with different objectives, including: cardio, abs/arms, legs, glutes, and flexibility. As for equipment, this program requires a few sets of light dumbells, as well as resistance bands and sliders.
Core de Force
Core de Force is a Beachbody program created by Joel Freeman and Jericho McMatthews, and it focuses on delivering a fun upbeat workout inspired by kickboxing, Muay Thai, and more. Workouts range from 30-50 minutes, and they are set up in 3-minute rounds, providing a unique approach to HIIT.
Insanity
Insanity is a program intended for advanced fitness trainers, created by Shaun T. You’ll be working out 6 days a week in this program, performing 30-60 minute cardio sessions that will test nearly anyone’s limits. Largely based on High Impact Interval Training, these workouts include plyometrics and a mixture of exercises designed to increase your strength, muscular endurance, and core stability. This is a fantastic option for someone with an advance fitness level that doesn’t have/want home equipment, since none is required.
P90X
Brought to you by Beachbody and created by Tony Horton, P90X is probably one of the most famous online workout programs. This workout is known for producing big results, and for good reason, as it will put you through hour-long-limit-testing workouts, 6 days a week. As the name implies, the program is 90 days long, and it includes an accompanying nutrition plan. The exercises themselves will involve a blend of HIIT, resistance training, plyometrics, abs, cardio, martial arts, yoga, and core stability. Very little equipment is required, but you will need a few dumbbells, a doorway-chin-up bar, and resistance bands to get the most out of the program.
PiYo
PiYo is a 60-day workout created by Chalene Johnson that blends pilates and yoga together for a low-impact and fun workout. Like other low impact training, this can be a great option if you have joint pain, downstairs neighbors, or a desire to take a break from your normal high-impact training. There is virtually no rest between moves, so you will have no problem getting your heart rate up. Also, there is no equipment is required for this program that will deliver both increased strength and flexibility.
Tone It Up
Tone It Up is a workout collection and fitness community, designed primarily for women, created by Katrina Scott and Karena Dawn. There is a huge database of workouts to choose from, and they also run motivating challenges throughout the year, for those that desire community and competition in their fitness journey. Many of the workouts will not require equipment, but some will benefit from resistance bands, sliders, dumbells, and/or an exercise ball.
Openfit is truly a tremendous option for beginners. I mean, with a slogan like “Fitness for Everyone”, it’s very clear they are on a mission to help the masses. One of the reasons we really like this service is the live class offering. They have loads of options to choose from, and their class schedule will also accommodate most schedules. This sort of live interactive fitness gives beginners the supervision and motivation needed to reach their fitness goals. On top of all that, there are nutrition plans (including recipes) to choose from as well!

That said, the primary focus of the training regimen has at-home training in mind. As an added perk unavailable in many apps in its class, you can also get one-on-one assistance from a certified personal trainers!
Trainiac can be considered one of the biggest names in online training, and it focuses more on personal training and less on workout choices. Unlike other services, you won't find a library of programs and workouts to choose from. Their model focuses on pairing you with a fitness expert that will design a customized program to help you reach your fitness goals! The workouts themselves will be tailored to your goals and your workout environment, so they are relatively personalized. Also, as you'd expect from Nike, these programs are fine-tuned and science-based, so you can be confident you are following a cutting edge results-oriented program. These programs are sure to enhance your performance and health. Last but not least, every program is instructed by a Nike Master Trainer, which sounds like a pretty impressive credential. Still debating on trying it out? Just do it.

This is a LOT more options than you'll find elsewhere, giving you more opportunities to find a class that fits your schedule and preferences. You’ll need to purchase equipment to take advantage of their intermediate/advanced classes, but that equipment can be found on their website.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the Mirror. Acquired in 2020 by Lululemon for $1B, it’s one of the hottest gadgets for home workout programs. It is primarily known for its interactive online classes, where its rise to fame was drawn from its comparison to Peloton. If you love a little friendly competition and working out at home, you're going to love the Mirror.
Still, there is more. Mirror also offers one-on-one personal training, accomplished via a two-way camera that is sort of like a mirror-sized video chat. This is probably the closest virtual alternative to an in-person personal trainer.
Is the mirror expensive? Without a doubt. After you shell out nearly $2K for the product, keep in mind that you will need to spend an additional $39 per month if you want access to the on-demand class subscription. Still, it is a very impressive product that can add a lot of fun and motivation to your fitness journey. Also, don't forget that you'll be saving money on that gym membership! Did I mention that when you aren't using the Mirror for a workout, and simply looks like a hanging wall mirror in your home? Pretty cool.
Probably the hottest thing to hit the fitness world since the dumbbell, Peloton came out of nowhere to become a $30B company. The craze was created by something as simple as: competition. Individuals with a Peloton product can get their workout in an interactive class and compete against others! This adds a fun element to working out, and it has added a lot of much-needed excitement for their workouts.
Initially launched as a home cycle, Peloton has also expanded to the treadmill. There are rumors for a rower, and for $39/month, you can access all sorts of other classes like: HIIT, Yoga, Strength Training, and more.
So, if Peloton is offering all those options, why isn't it number one on our list? Well, while we think it's a really cool product (to say the least), we prefer the versatility of the Mirror. If your main focus is cardio, then Peloton is the clear winner! However, if you want to do a variety of workouts, the Mirror offers a lot more versatility, takes up less space, and even comes in at a (slightly) lower price point.
PIIT28 is a specialized version of HIIT that derives all its exercises from pilates. Designed primarily for women, this is a 28 day program that will have you performing 28-minute workouts, six days a week. Again, the movements are pilates based, so you will do a lot of core strengthening while you burn calories. With its HIIT style, each workout will include three rounds of seven exercises, with only 15 seconds of rest between each set, so you will still get a lot done in only 28 minutes.
Fit Girl’s Guide is unique in that it focuses on its online community to generate support and accountability for one another. There are over 5 million people following @fitgirlsguide on Instagram, so while its currently our top pick for online community, it's on the verge of a fitness revolution!
Users are encouraged to start the program at the first of the month so that they are on the same trek as the other new members to the program. This can be a REALLY powerful motivator and also adds a lot of support and accountability to your online workout program. It’s also particularly geared toward beginners. Workouts are 30 minutes each, and no extra equipment is required, but be prepared to be active every day for 28 days!
Avoiding Injury
For those who are concerned about injuring themselves during a workout, and/or those who are just starting on their fitness journey, P.Volve is a tremendous option! Their online workout program combines patented resistance-based equipment with dynamic movements to achieve increased muscular balance, proper movement, and functional strength. P.Volve fills a much-needed gap in the online fitness industry, as far too many platforms focus on workouts and hype/motivation. The importance of proper kinetic movement and muscular balance is paramount for any fitness journey, and we're glad to see P.Volve making strides in this arena. Still, don't confuse this for physical therapy! This workout will raise your heart rate and torch calories as well, making it a true great option. Sure, the equipment is a little pricey, but we think the overall investment is well worth the money.
Apartment Workouts
Have you ever tried working out in your apartment? A good plyometrics workout will all but convince your neighbors you're about to fall through their ceiling! There's a remedy for this, and it doesn't require you to sacrifice the intensity of the workout. What is it? Low-Impact Interval Training (LIIT), and P.Volve is a great option in this category. Rather than jumping and other fast-moving-high-impact exercises, you will focus on increased time under tension, which will still offer a huge calorie burn without putting strain on your joints. Not sure if you believe it? Try out their free trial, and you'll see what I mean.
Alo moves offers an impressive database of high-quality instruction for yoga, meditation, and more. Workouts range from beginner to advanced and include functional instructions for beginners. Similar to Alo moves, Glo offers a database of yoga, pilates, and meditation workouts ranging from 10 minutes to an hour. In addition, Glo also offers a couple live classes each day! This can be a huge benefit for beginners or people who crave a little more human interaction in their workouts. Also, Glo has a fantastic mobile app that tops Alo Moves. Still, despite some of the extra perks, we just felt Alo Moves' offering was a bit more established than Glo's at this point in time.

Fitbit offers its own options for workout subscriptions via Fitbit Premium and Fitbit Health Coaching. Fitbit Premium will give you access to workouts that you can perform and track via your fitbit. Fitbit Health Coaching will also provide you with a health coach that you can interact with. While some may consider this one-on-one training, it is considered by many to be more of a “one-on-one customer support”. Still, while the health coach isn’t training you during your workouts, they do help create them and are also available via text/chat to answer questions and offer advice. Considering the low price point, this is a fantastic option (especially for fitbit enthusiasts).
